Wtcc 2011: New Faces

To be honest it’s not the best period for WTCC. Global Crysis, Rules changes, probelms in automotive markets, diverted investments, everything made this category to lose some kind of importance and appeal. A real World Touring Car Championship definitely needs the presence of the most important car builders, such as Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen, Ford, Fiat, Opel, Nissan, Peugeot, Renault and many many others. All this factory have at least one good car which would be a good base for a touring car and a perfect addiction to the group: in some cases they just had a proper car that competes in national championships with little rules changes: it would be easy to reconvert those cars and make possible a more varied and competitive trophy. The WTCC Organization decided to try to find some funds and audience in new markets, such as Central and South America, North Africa, China, East Europe. That’s why we found so many russian and chinese teams in this year schedule and that’s why many european teams who can’t afford international movements retired form world championship to dedicate their time to local events. Many countries don’t have tv coverage and this is another huge problem to face to bring money and sponsorships in the businness. Here is a look at some new cars and teams that entered the competition.
